BACKGROUND

Angela Morton is a woman with a mission. She was born into a childhood of poverty, but managed to make something of her life through sheer hard work and determination. No-one ever gave Angela a helping hand, and she never asked for one. Yet even after she finally managed to pull herself out of the proverbial gutter, Angela was still filled with an emptiness that money could never satisfy. This emptiness was borne by the knowledge that there are many others in the world who are not able to help themselves in the same way she did. Based on these feelings, Angela's mission is to hold out a helping hand to anybody in real need. To help those who are fighting against poverty, pain or misery, and who need a nudge in the right direction to get their lives back on track.

Super-human powers did not initially play a part in Angela's vision. She did her best to bring hope to those in real need through community projects, and achieved a great deal by her efforts. Angela’s viewpoint only changed after she hooked up with Ric Tanis, another super-human like Angela herself, and she realised how much more she could do to help people in need. She felt that if they were used in the right way, her powers could make a real difference, and by joining together with other super-humans who share her ideals, the difference which could be made would be greater still.

The vigilante group known as The Grey Cross was formed after a chance encounter with a super-human stray by the name of Waif. The target of assassins, Waif's life was saved by two mercenaries, Reaper and Huntsman, contracted out to protect the youngster for some, as-yet unexplained reason. Angela Morton took a gamble, and suggested that the five form a vigilante group to help protect those who, like Waif, were in grave need of aid. The group's name was conceived by Reaper, whose reasoning behind the choice was due to the 'Grey' area in which the team would undoubtedly operate, combined with the obvious moral 'Cross' which Angela bore.

Angela took on the codename of Zenith, in order to protect her loved ones from potential retribution if anyone should find out her true identity. She hoped that The Grey Cross could strike deep at the heart of the criminal element, which she sees as being primarily responsible for the ills which have befallen large sections of society. Drugs are a particular concern, and wiping their scourge from the streets is one of Angela's main priorities. Unfortunately for Zenith, not all of the group's members are as dedicated to 'the cause' as she is, a fact which has already led to a great deal of tension and strife within The Grey Cross.
